Marking Ladders

Used models of recounts – 1st person (Produced by County). Children used models and the marking ladders to see what made a good recount.  (As a class). 

Next, they evaluated texts in pairs.

Finally, wrote their own recount from a visit and used the Ladder to check they are on task.

Evaluation / Gwerthusiad

Overall a success.  The children can tell you what goes into a recount and included those aspects in their work.

Some of the language in the Marking Ladders can be too difficult for a lot of Year 3, even when you constantly go over what it means.  The next time you have to explain what it means again even though they can tell you what a recount is in their own words.

We have also started using the same technique for Procedures.
