Description of Activity / Disgrifiad o'r Weithgaredd

Children were grouped – they were given the opportunity to make choices with whom to work. The class divided into two. One half researched rich Victorian children while the other researched the poor.

Key questions were discussed and agreed up on.

Following research, groups jigsawed to share information. Children were then paired – one rich, one poor – in order to prepare an interview to be presented at the end of the sessions.

This took place over a number of wet days.

Evaluation / Gwerthusiad

The children thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. They particularly embraced the opportunity to make choices about groupings and prepared an informative interview, which all were keen to present. The children decided to dress in character in order to create more authenticity, with volunteers presenting to the school during my assembly.

The think-pair-share strategy, alongside jigsawing, generated lost of pertinent discussion with regular reference to the agreed success criteria. The knowledge gained through this approach was evident during the ensuing interviews.
