Marking Ladders as form of sharing learning objectives and for pupils to use as form of self-assessment.
Description of Activity / Disgrifiad o'r Weithgaredd
Introduced Marking Ladders for different text types which identified points pupils needed to include in their written work. During first draft pupils referred to these to ensure they used correct format, content, style, conventions etc of text type.
When written work completed and marked pupils asked to identify areas for improvement using Marking Ladders and concentrate on these elements during second draft.
Evaluation / Gwerthusiad
Children liked the idea of knowing what I was looking for when I was marking their work. They also appreciated knowing exactly what was required within different text types (and having constant physical reminder in front of them).
However, they had difficulty understanding exactly how to address each element successfully or improve/extend their work using the ladders. This meant that I needed to go over the exact meaning of each point and discuss strategies to address these.
