- Researching and Writing a Victorian Newspaper
Description of Activity / Disgrifiad o'r Weithgaredd
- The children brainstormed the topic forces to see what knowledge they already had. Following this, they were given a variety of research books to see what other information they could find out.
- The children used the Internet to research William Morris. They made their notes and then shared one interesting fact with other children. Following on from this, they produced a class book containing facts, drawings and computer work.
- A similar process was used for comparing photos.
- The children looked at present day newspapers and compared them to old newspaper styles.
- They were given an old photo of our locality and as a group they composed a suitable story to go with the picture.
Evaluation / Gwerthusiad
- The children knew an incredible amount on Forces and enjoyed working this way. This led into discovering how Forces operate in our playground.
- This was a very successful project. The children enjoyed using the Internet and sharing their findings with each other. The finished class books that have been produced are fantastic and the children are enjoying looking through them and sharing each others work.
- As a class we produced a Victorian-style newspaper. The children were encouraged to write witty articles, which some found difficulty at first, but after a little more guidance they did well.
