Recording Achievements - Sources of Evidence
Where the sources of evidence are whole school records or documents it is not necessary to attach these to a portfolio, better to simply refer to them and where they can be found. If moving to a new school it may be necessary to acquire copies for reference purposes.

Basic Principles:

  1. Clarify the purpose. The particular design of the portfolio - the way it is organised and constructed - will be determined by the individual's or school's creativity/preferences and the purpose of compiling it.
  2. Select the evidence. The teacher needs to make a careful selection, bearing in mind the purpose of the portfolio. Some evidence may be repetitive and on occasion a reference to the location of the evidence will be needed. Thought must be given to the chronological organisation of evidence.
  3. Add a critical narrative. It may be useful in some instances to add an interpretation or an analysis of the evidence.
