Age Range: Reception |
Module: Early Years Graphics and Advanced Communicating |
|
Outline of Graphics Activity |
The children use a graphics package to draw animals that supported the classroom topic. The class teacher drew the outlines of individual animals on the screen using water-based felt pen. The children traced these outlines using the brush tool to produce their own pictures. The children were also encouraged to select different colours and flood fill areas of the drawing. The teacher saved the work and printed the drawings for the children. Some children also printed their work. This activity provided experience for the children that highlighted the effects of ICT. Assessment of IT skills took place throught constant observation and discussion with the children. The assessment focused on mouse control and selecting different graphic tools. |
Outline of Advanced Communicating Activity |
The graphic images saved from the above module were used to create an electronic book. The images were inserted, by the teacher, into a word processing package. The children wrote about their individual pictures. The teacher saved the files and linked the individual screens. The children used the electronic book as a resource by navigating from page to page. They also selected the speech facility to listen to the text being read. The activity enhance literacy by encouraging the children to develop speaking, listening and writing skills. |
