A
range of accreditation options is covered by your NOF work with
Swansea Bay Online Learning Partnership. All of the options mentioned
below are open to all teachers, regardless of whether they are
in Primary or Secondary, and regardless of subject. As you come
to the middle point of your NOF training - after about a single
term or ten weeks' work - you should discuss these options with
your mentor.
Accreditation
for Skills Development
How it
works
While you are doing your SBOLP work you will be developing your
IT skills and providing evidence of these skills at the same time.
This means that we can take this evidence and provide an accredited
certificate for it from a variety of awarding bodies.
Your
skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, DTP, presentations,
using the Internet and a range of other areas can be evidenced
so that you can have an award from a nationally recognised awarding
body such and Edexcel or Cambridge IT. This accreditation is provided
by your FE College partner and is available free of all charges
in almost all cases.
Who to
contact
If your school is in Neath Port Talbot you should contact Dorian
Jones at Neath Port Talbot College.
If
your school is in Swansea you should contact Rachael
Barry at the SBOLP Office in Swansea College to establish
whether Swansea College or Gorseinon College should deal with
your accreditation.
In
either case, you should discuss this aspect of your work with
your mentor.
Accreditation
for Teaching and Learning Development
How it
works
You have two options for having your development of using ICT
in teaching and learning accredited. The first is a Level 2/3
Cambridge IT Certificate in Using ICT in Teaching and learning.
This is a portfolio-based qualification and is available free
from your FE College. It uses the evidence that you have gathered
during your SBOLP programme to show that you have met the CIT
Criteria. There is no charge whatever for this qualification,
but you may find that you need to provide additional evidence
to your SBOLP portfolio.
Who to
contact
For this Level 2/3 qualification, contact Rachael
Barry at the SBOLP office in Swansea College.
Mapping
your Work into a Higher Qualification
How it
works
The second option in accrediting your development in teaching
and learning using ICT is a Level 4 Certificate in Professional
Development from Edexcel, and is provided through the Swansea
Institute system. This is a widely recognised CPD qualification,
but may require you to submit further evidence on top of your
SBOLP portfolio and will incur an accreditation cost.
Who to
contact
For the level 4 qualification discuss the workload with your mentor,
who will arrange things with a colleague from Swansea Institute.
Using
your SBOLP Work in Higher Degree Development
How it
works
It is possible to map the work and the evidence from SBOLP into
Masters and other post-graduate level programmes from the University
of Wales Swansea. This is clearly a serious undertaking, and will
involve you in further work beyond SBOLP and in some degree of
cost.
Who to
contact
Once you have discussed it with your mentor, you should contact
Steve Kennewell
at the University for further details.
