Mary's main concern was to find a suitable husband for her infant daughter.
This was important, as the child was not only Queen of Scotland but, as
Margaret Tudor's granddaughter, she was next in line to the English throne
after the children of Henry VIII.
Eventually,
Mary of Guise rejected all other advances (included that of Henry VIII
who wanted Mary Queen of Scots to marry his son, Edward) in favour of
marriage to Francis, son and heir to the French crown.
