The
photograph below left of the Blackpill Station was taken in July 1995.
The building housed the electricity sub-station that provided the power
for the Mumbles Trains. Where was the track of the Mumbles Railway?
The Blackpill
electricity sub-station was built in 1927. As well as being used as
a stop for the Mumbles Train, its main purpose was to convert the 6,600
volts alternating current (AC), as supplied by the Swansea Corporation,
into 650 volts direct current (DC) which the Mumbles Trains used.
These pictures
above show the rotary converters inside the No.1 sub-station at Blackpill.
