During
the mid 1990's, Southend underwent extensive redevelopment, designed
to increase the tourist population. Many small boats and pleasure craft
are kept along the promenade. The large building in the left photograph
is "Verdi's Ice Cream Parlour". The Mumbles Train would have
followed the concrete path running along the left hand side of this
photo. This path led to the terminus at the Mumbles Pier.
The photograph on the right shows Southend in the 1950's. Many of the
houses on the right are still standing today. Small boats were kept
tethered along the promenade. In the distance, Mumbles Pier and the
lifeboat house can be seen.
