This picture below
left shows the approach road to the Mumbles Pier. The Mumbles Train
would have travelled along this route, stopping in front of the cafeteria
next to the pier. The Mumbles Pier was (and still is) a popular site
for local people and tourists. The poles on the left of the picture
originally carried the electric cables which powered the Mumbles Train.
This picture
on the right is from the 1950's, and shows the Mumbles Railway line
as it approaches the Mumbles Pier terminus. The posts carrying the electric
current for the train can be seen on the left. Large numbers of passengers
would travel to and from the Mumbles Pier as it was a popular destination
for local people and holidaymakers.

The
film shows a view from inside a Mumbles Train as it approaches the
Pier Terminus. Notice the limestone cliffs on the right hand side
of the track. Limestone was one of the reasons why the Mumbles Railway
was built. You can find out more in the Story of the Mumbles Railway. |
