| Actually, the word continuo and figured-bass mean the
same thing - a series of figures under the bass stave implying the harmony
that was intended by the composer.
It was left to the skill of the harpsichord player to interpret the figures, whilst the bass notes themselves were performed by the cellos and basses. |
