Car Park in the Wrong Place!

The proposal to build a new park is a sensible one, except for one thing. It's in the wrong place! The residents would not wish to park their cars there and then walk some distance to their home - especially if they are carrying shopping or have young children with them. What is needed is a better car parking facility within the estate itself.
Another place where a car park is needed is opposite the shops on Riverside. At the moment there is only space for three cars to park and this is totally inadequate for the five shops that we have. Why not convert the gardens into a parking area for shoppers and put new gardens on the waste ground?

Sir - The Riverside Housing Estate is home to a large number of families with many children. At present, there are no recreational facilities for these people anywhere in the area. Isn't it about time that something was done about this?
What is needed is a facility that would serve the needs of all young people and this would benefit everyone in the community. A creche would allow some single parents (of whom there are a number on the estate) to look for employment; an outdoor play area would cater for the majority of school age children and keep them off the streets; a youth centre would provide a meeting place, especially for older children and might offer a range of leisure activities to help them direct their energies. Such a facility would also help to bring the whole community together and might solve some of the much publicised problems associated with the estate.

Sir - I write regarding your recent article and correspondence related to the proposed development of the area of waste ground near the Riverside Housing Estate. I wish to point out that to turn the land into a car park was only one of a series of options being considered by the council and that, in any case, no final decision has yet been made. In keeping with council policy, we are consulting all sections of the community who might be affected by our plans and, when a decision has been made, the public can be confident that it will be in the best interests of the community as a whole.

Leader of the Council
