c. Adapting the Resources for Different Learners or Work

This part of the case study follows from what has just been said about evaluation of resources. If a piece of software, a World Wide Web site or a dedicated piece of courseware can be used for more than one group of learners or across more than one area of work, it follows that it is more valuable to you in your work.

In the case study, the teacher found the ideas behind using the web sites and CD resources useful for this particular group on this particular task, but also useful with the same group in other areas of their Business Studies work. It was simply a matter of spending time with the pupils exploring the potential of a range of sites. We have already seen that this particular activity can be used as an introduction to Intermediate or Advanced work, and that it can cover work in the compulsory unit Competitive Business Environment.

Variations on the same method could also be used in introducing the Finance (another compulsory) unit or in the optional units Business Statistics (11), BIT 1 (14), BIT 2 (15) or Global trading (20). Equally, if you are a Business Studies teacher who also handles A/S Economics and/or work further down the age-range, the basic methods of data manipulation and management shown here can be adapted across the range.

With this in mind, think about how you would complete the grid on the following page, and discuss it with your mentor.
