Part 1:
Preparing to Use ICT in Teaching
a.
Aims and Objectives
The
teacher's aim for the sake of this case study is to develop work
in Aspects of Local History at Key Stage 3, integrating with it
a thematic interest in The World of Work. In this case the learners
are KS3 pupils in a mixed gender urban comprehensive. As we meet
the teacher, he has previously taught the main area of work and
likes it, though he has not tried the integration of Local History
with World of Work.
Specifically,
over the total eight-week programme, the teacher wants the pupils
at this phase of their learning to:
- Describe
the main forms of industrial activity in the Swansea Bay area
- Distinguish
between
- the
urban and rural
- the
coastal and the valley
- the
industrial and the commercial in the Swansea Bay area
- Place
their investigation and comment in the period between the two
World Wars
- Relate
their findings to their own and their communities' situations
in terms of work
- Explain
some of the similarities and differences between the period
under consideration and the current period
Questions
for Consideration
- How
do you currently deal with this area of work in the classroom?
- Do
you use pictures, other images or print/video materials to illustrate
points, and how do you manage use of these?
- What
are the main problems encountered by pupils when they work historical
comparisons of the sort being proposed here?
Keep
a short record of your responses to these questions for discussion
with your mentor.
