Part 1:
Preparing to Use ICT in Teaching
a.
Aims and Objectives
The
teacher's aim for the sake of this case study is to develop work
in:
-
Communication Key Skill - Level 3
- Element
3.3: Produce two documents on complex subjects
- Area
of focus - Advertising on Television and the Internet
In
this case the learners are vocational students in a range of areas.
Several are working on GNVQ Advanced Health and Social care, several
GNVQ Advanced Business and several GNVQ Advanced Leisure and Tourism.
As we meet the teacher, he has previously taught the main area
of work through a variety of methods, and has always been keen
to have pupils work on a range of Media and Advertising issues
in order to help them develop their understanding of the underlying
patterns in advertising across a range of media.
Specifically,
over an introductory two week phase of his programme, the teacher
wants the pupils at this phase of their learning to be able to:
- Describe
and evaluate the use of imagery in a range of advertisements
on television and the Internet.
- Describe
the differences between uses of language in advertising similar
products across the media.
- Evaluate
the relationship between medium and form of advertisement in
the two media.
- Explain
and predict the importance of diversity in advertising in the
relation between TV and the Internet.
Questions
for Consideration
- How
do you currently deal with this area of work in the classroom?
- Do
you use real examples of advertisements to illustrate points,
and how do you manage use of and access to these?
- What
are the main problems encountered when you work with real examples
of television and Internet advertising?
Keep
a short record of your responses to these questions for discussion
with your mentor.
