Part 1:
Preparing to Use ICT in Teaching
a.
Aims and Objectives
The
teacher's aim for the sake of this case study is to develop work
in Energy Resources and Energy Transfer at Key Stage 3. In this
case the learners are KS3 pupils in a mixed gender urban comprehensive
- the gender balance is roughly equal. As we meet the teacher,
he has previously taught the main area of work through a variety
of methods, and has always been keen to have pupils work on a
range of Energy and other environmental issues in order to help
them develop their understanding of energy and conservation.
Specifically,
in an introductory two-week section of his programme, the teacher
wants the pupils at this phase of their learning to be able to:
-
Describe the variety of energy resources, including coal, oil,
gas, biomass, food, wind, waves and batteries.
- Give
examples of the application and function of the sources of energy
in human societies.
- Describe
how electricity is generated using a variety of energy resources.
- Discuss
issues of renewability of resources.
Questions
for Consideration
- How
do you currently deal with this area of work in the classroom?
- Do
you use real examples of energy use in human society to illustrate
points, and how do you manage use of and access to these?
- What
are the main problems encountered when you work with real examples
of energy dissipation and conservation?
Keep
a short record of your responses to these questions for discussion
with your mentor.
