Part One:
Preparing to Use ICT in Teaching
a.
Aims and Objectives
The
teacher's aim for the sake of this case study is to develop work
in Key Stage 3 History in the area of Wales and Industrial Britain,
1760-1914, with some attention paid to Migration and Emigration
as a Historical Theme. In this case the learners are KS3 pupils
in a mixed gender comprehensive school. As we meet the teacher,
he has previously used a variety of methods of dealing with this
area, including discussion, chalk-and-talk, paper-based materials
and some video.
Specifically,
the teacher wants the pupils at this phase of work on History
to:
-
Explain what is meant by Industrialisation, providing examples
from Welsh History.
- Describe
Migration and Emigration, and explain briefly how the process
of industrialisation influences patterns of population growth
and movement.
- Provide
a chronological account of the main aspects of industrialisation
in key periods within the area 1760-1914.
- Outline
two or more changes in:
- Social
- Economic
- Technological
aspects of life in the period
Questions
for Consideration
- How
do you currently deal with this area of work in the classroom?
- Do
you use any ICT based methods to gather and present information,
and how do you manage use of these?
Keep
a short record of your responses to these questions for discussion
with your mentor.
