Planning the Work of Learners
The
teacher decided first to consult the school SEN Co-ordinator about
these plans. She was very interested, and promised to drop in
to the lesson if she could, but she hadn't had experience of anything
like this. She also said that she would put a message on the national
SENCO e-mail discussion list to find out whether anyone else had
experience in this sort of work with SEN pupils.
He
anticipated just a single one-hour lesson would be enough initially
to spend on this work, although he hoped that it would engage
at least some of the pupils sufficiently for him to encourage
them to continue and extend their investigations in future lessons.
To enable them to work together on the same thing, whilst having
a computer each to ensure active engagement, he booked the class
into a computer room for the initial lesson. Any follow up work
could take place on the single computer in the usual classroom.
Key
skills: The teacher planned to develop their literacy skills in
addition to their IT skills, by helping them to use the printed
guidance sheets, and to talk and write about their conclusions.
Questions
for Consideration
- What
are the advantages of all pupils working together on the same
activity in a computer room?
- What
are the disadvantages?
