Backgrounds

The information on each slide can be displayed on top of a chosen background. Background properties can be selected for the entire show or individual slides. Try the following in Slide Sorter view:

Template Background

  1. Choose Format/Apply Design for a dialog box listing a set of PowerPoint templates.
  2. Click on one of the list of designs with the .pot extension and a preview displays on the right of the dialog box.
  3. Click on Apply to apply the template to the presentation.

Experiment with a range of backgrounds to appreciate how a background can affect the look of a presentation. For this slide show choose the Fireball.pot design.

Background Colouring

  1. Click the Format menu and select Slide Colour Scheme. This gives a dialog box with areas (eg. text lines, title text, fills, etc) and a current colour.
  2. Click on an area and the Change Colour button for a dialog box to select an alternative colour. Try a number of background colours to appreciate how they can affect the look of a presentation.
  3. For this slide show, choose a light grey background since this will print better. Note that dark backgrounds will tend to overwhelm foreground information when printed.
  4. In the Slide Colour Scheme dialog box you can apply the change to only the current slide or apply to all slides. Experiment with one slide to obtain a satisfactory colour scheme.

Colour schemes can be copied from one slide to another using Format/Colour Scheme in Slide Sorter view. Click the Format menu and select Background to view a range of direction options. Again experiment with colour shading directions here.
