A Sample Assignment

This sample assignment illustrates the process of building a PowerPoint presentation right the way through from the Design Brief - as required in your assignment - to the slide show itself.

The Design Brief

Divisional Project
Production of a Presentation for the Division of Learning Support, to provide information provision and new marketing opportunities.

The Target Audience
Initially, the presentation is designed for use in classrooms and in presentations to members of the various management teams, steering groups and lecturing groups. Some of the audience will be familiar with the Division, some might not be.

The presentation could be run either stand-alone on a computer - in which case questions would not be anticipated or using a presentation projector, in which case questions would be expected. Venues will vary and could include the Main Hall, Classrooms, Seminar Rooms or the Boardroom.

Security of Equipment
This will depend on the style of presentation. In the case of a projector and PC, these will usually be carried to the venue for the duration of the seminar, attended at all times then removed to a secure location and locked up. Stand-alone PCs will most likely be used only in staff rooms and teaching rooms, which are kept securely locked when unmanned.

Intention
The presentation is designed to entertain and instruct. It will provide information in an eye-catching, entertaining manner. At the end of the presentation, the audience should have a better understanding of the key role of the Division of Learning Support and what it can do for the individual student and lecturer.

Contact names and number will be provided if more information is required. To measure the success of the presentation, the number of queries could be logged on a central database, accessible on all terminals throughout the college.

Image and Style
The presentation is designed to be upbeat, involving the audience. It uses a fast paced "jaunty" style, providing information in a short time span - ie. it will be concise and relevant.

Purpose of Presentation
The presentation gives an overview of the Division, its different parts and the different services it provides. Specific technical details will be provided as audience handouts and speaker notes or a combination of both.

Format of Presentation
Once the initial assignment has been created, a variety of options exist for output. The initial ones for use in the college are computer screen, computer OHP, projected slides and overhead transparencies (OHPs).

Speaker and audience notes will be provided for all of the above.
