Accessing
the World Wide Web
The
first step to accessing the World Wide Web is to launch a "browser"
package, which enables you to view web pages. There are a variety
of browser packages available, for example Netscape Navigator,
Internet Explorer, Lynx and Opera. The notes in this section refer
to Internet Explorer, Microsoft's iteration of the browser. Different
versions exist, with enhanced capabilities in the later versions.
On
the left-hand side of the Desktop, there should be a shortcut
icon marked 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' or it may be simply
labelled 'The Internet'. Depending on which version of Windows
you are using, the shortcut icon should look like either of the
illustrations shown left. Double-click on the relevant icon to
launch Internet Explorer.
