Part 1:
Preparing to Use ICT in Teaching
a.
Aims and Objectives
The
teacher's aim for the sake of this case study can be seen broadly
as to use the Internet to gather image resources for use in pupils'
work in Design and Technology. Some ideas for this will include:
-
Textiles - images from commercial sites trading in textile products,
for incorporation into students' own work.
- Resistant
Materials - images from educational and industry-related sites
where these images explain processes and products.
- Nutrition
- images from educational and other sites that help elucidate
points in the syllabus.
- Childcare
and Education - images used in commercial and governmental sites
to convey specific messages about childhood.
Specifically, in an introductory section of his programme, the
teacher wants the pupils at this phase of their learning to be
able to:
- Access
appropriate web sites and appreciate their content in relation
to the given area of the syllabus.
- Select
images from the web sites to include in documents, presentations
and other forms of work.
- Explain
why images from the sites were chosen and their relation to
the content of the syllabus and to tasks being undertaken.
Questions
for Consideration
- How
do you currently deal with issue of acquiring and using any
type of images in work you do in the classroom?
- Do
you already use digital forms of images, and how do you manage
use of and access to these?
- What
are the main problems you expect to encounter when you work
with images on the web and when you try to get images from it
into other forms?
Keep
a short record of your responses to these questions for discussion
with your mentor.
