Developing Your Own Knowledge of the Resources
Having
made decisions about using some of the resources and opportunities
in tandem, it is important for the teacher in the case study to
get to know the resources well enough to feel confident about
using them in the classroom. It is also important that the pupils
feel comfortable about using resources. We can focus on this with
an exercise that takes you through the attached worksheet. You
can open it from the link below, or you may need to discuss with
your mentor having it provided on CDROM. In any case, all you
need on your computer is Word version 6 or higher and the ability
to hear sounds.
How
do I download Word documents and other files?
Having
got the Worksheet open and had a look at it, think about the questions
below and discuss them with your mentor. Answer the following
questions - just to give you some focus to begin with:
- Is
the variety of sounds available adequate to the job the worksheet
wants to do? What other sounds would you add, and where would
they come from?
- Are
the images helpful in helping the reader of the Worksheet progress
toward an understanding of the quality of sound?
- Do
the word-based exercises at the end provide a sufficiently focused
opportunity to talk about timbre and the quality of musical
and other sounds?
When you have looked at the Worksheet in the light of these questions,
and perhaps written some worksheets of your own to go with it,
you should discuss with your mentor what you want to do with the
resource in the classroom. This can be done in a mentor visit,
over the telephone or by email, and should serve merely to satisfy
you that you are on the right track with your use of the materials.
