is Word Processing?
Word
Processing enables you to work in the Language, Literacy and Communicating
Skills area of the Early Years Desirable Outcomes. Word Processing
is the ability to enter, edit, manipulate, store and print pages
of text using a computer. Most modern word processors have desktop
publishing (DTP) capabilities.
Desktop
publishing (DTP) is the combining of text and graphics, laid out
or arranged to produce a finished product.
Examples
of using Word Processing:
- an
on-screen worksheet where pupils match pictures to words
- an
on-screen worksheet where pupils match words to words
- use
a concept keyboard or an on-screen grid of words to create simple
sentences
- use
the keyboard to create words and/or simple sentences - eg. write
their name to be printed and used as a label for their tray
or make a bookmark
- pupils
make word labels linked to letter/sentence patterns currently
in use
- move
words on screen to unscramble a simple sentence
- creating
posters to simulate 'big book' activities
