Part 1:
Preparing to Use ICT in Teaching
a.
Aims and Objectives
For
the sake of this case study, the teacher's aims and objectives
will be built around the use of course-specific hardware and/or
software for the subject. In the next section of the case study,
we shall look at this in some detail, but for the moment we should
note that the ACAC curriculum orders and the WJEC syllabus both
propose the use of subject-specific ICT in Design and Technology.
Both of the documents mentioned have been supplied with this case
study, and can also be found at the relevant web sites:
ACAC
www.acac.org.uk/publications/ncorders.html
This page gives links onto the orders for all subjects. The orders
are downloadable as .pdf files, which means that your PC will
need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in order to view them.
Acrobat Reader is a free program and can be downloaded from the
Adobe
web site.
WJEC
www.wjec.co.uk/syllabus.html
This page gives links to WJEC GCSE and A Level/AS documents, which
are available as .pdf files as above.
The
teacher's objectives for pupils will be based around the orders
and curriculum - essentially he/she will want pupils to use according
to appropriate rules and conventions a range of subject-specific
hardware and/or software.
In
the following section, we shall look at how the use of subject-specific
ICT works in detail, but before you go on to this, consider the
questions below for discussion with your mentor:
-
In your own area of Design and Technology, which aspects of
subject-specific ICT do you currently use most frequently?
- In
relation to the Curriculum 2000 Orders, which areas of subject-specific
ICT will be new to you or your school, and how have you and
the school so far prepared for this?
