Materials - Shape, Style and Nature

All modules will be supported by online learning materials which can be viewed through any internet browser. Materials will be provided to individual teachers on compact disc, and in paper form for teachers not yet confident or competent to access digital material.

As well as producing and commissioning its own materials as described above, the partnership is prepared to invest in commercially produced material and to commit currently held resources to the project.

Investment in commercially produced material would include the following:

Material produced by ICL, Microsoft, CBT and Ivy Software is, or will shortly, be available to the partnership by virtue of normal ICT courseware investment.

Material produced by commercial sections and partners of the High Education sector, such as the Open University and Anglia Multimedia, will be purchased to support the delivery of the programme.

Material produced across the industry for use in the classroom - from CD-ROM encyclopedias to language learning courseware and subject specific clipart folders - will be kept in stock and used with individual teachers and learners.

Direct Training Materials - ICT Skills
Materials currently exist from the Further Education National Consortium, CIA Training and NEC to deal with threshold ICT skills, and this material can be used under licence. Material also exists within the partnership that can be used and/or adapted to deliver ICT skills in the appropriate manner.

Direct Training Material - Pedagogy
Resources currently used in the teacher training environments within the partnership will be committed in the period from November 1998 for reformatting into a consistent delivery format.

Indirect Training Material - Courseware and Software for Evaluation
Courseware and software that has been developed by the partners will be contributed to the partnership as part of the jointly held library of e-resources.

This includes:

  • Welsh (beginner level) multimedia CD-ROM
  • GCSE Maths (revision) multimedia CD-ROM
  • GCSE English (full delivery) online learning resource
  • The Mumbles Train CD-ROM
