This
task will enable you to use the Modelling strand of ICT while
supporting and enhancing mathematics.
LOGO
can be applied effectively to support a theme or topic in, eg.
mathematics, which involves work on shape and angles or geography
through the exploration of a scene or place.
Intermediate
Task:
Decide
on the focus for the activity and the desired learning outcomes.
Demonstrate
to pupils how to:
-
create procedures by entering a sequence of direct commands
to produce shapes on screen
- use
pre-drawn shapes or shape tools (if available), to create simple
2D shapes/patterns
- use
Repeat procedures to create regular shapes and patterns
- rotate
shapes through 360° to produce patterns
- use
a greater range of tools - eg. change line style and colour
- save,
retrieve, amend and print work
Prepare
differentiated, focused tasks/activities that involve pupils inputting
direct commands to create shapes on screen. For example, create
2D shapes/patterns to investigate tessellation or symmetry.
Some
other areas to explore could be:
-
properties of shape
- the
concept of angles
- repeating
patterns
- exploration
of number etc.
Using
the example of a regular shape created 'line by line', introduce
and develop repeat procedures to create regular shapes and patterns.
Create more complex procedures involving repeat commands producing
spectacular patterns by rotating shapes through 360°. Change
line style and colour.
