This task will enable you to work in the Communicating Ideas and Handling Information strand of IT and the subject areas being addressed.

It will make teachers aware of how a suitable word processor/DTP package can be applied effectively to enhance pupil learning across the curriculum. In particular it will allow children to develop a high level of IT capability.

This task entails using a word processor/DTP package.

An additional support program such as Clicker Plus can be used to give additional support to those pupils who need extra assistance.

Advanced Task:

Decide on the focus for the activity and the desired learning outcomes.

Using the word processor of your choice, demonstrate to pupils how to:

  • extract images and text from CD-ROMs/WWW
  • insert images and text into a DTP package
  • create and edit text frames and text flows
  • plan the outline and design of book/web pages
  • consider the audience
  • create individual pages and link pages
  • save, retrieve and amend work
  • prepare e-mails with attachments

Prepare differentiated, cross-curricular tasks/activities that will allow pupils to:

  • extract and use relevant resources from CD-ROMs/WWW
  • create and edit text frames and text flows
  • either create links between individual pages to produce multimedia documents or create WWW pages for Intranet and Internet
  • prepare e-mails with attachments - eg. images/documents
  • edit their work
  • save and retrieve work
