Prior
to Commencing the Task...
Consider
the following:
- where
in the overall plan for the school year would the use of monitoring
be more appropriate?
- what
subject areas will be supported? (Focused opportunities to use
a monitoring exercise)
- what
are the desired teaching and learning outcomes?
- are
there alternative methods, other than using computer-based activities,
which could be employed?
- how
will the monitoring equipment and software be introduced to
the pupils?
- how
will the graphical facilities of the software be introduced?
- how
will the transfer of graphical representations of data be demonstrated?
- what
would be the most effective and manageable pupil groupings?
- what
tasks will be given to the pupils?
- will
the tasks ensure continuity and progression?
- what
questions will be asked of pupils during and after the tasks?
- when
will assessment take place? (During the task or through questioning
the group after the task?)
- will
assessment inform future planning?
Teaching
Points:
- prepare
differentiated materials that are needed
- ensure
that pupils are familiar with the monitoring equipment
- ensure
that the pupils are familiar with the software
- ensure
that pupils are aware of how to record readings and plot graphs
- ensure
that pupils are aware of how to transfer graphical representations
of data into a word processor
- ensure
that pupils can word process their work effectively
-
emphasise the need to save, retrieve and edit work
- provide
opportunities for pupils to discuss and interpret graphical
representations of data
- provide
opportunities for pupils to write about their findings within
a word processor and use the graphical representations of the
data to illustrate their accounts
