task will enable you to work in the Modelling strand of ICT and
address requirements within a number of curricular areas.
Adventures
and simulations, by their very nature, can support many topics
within a number of curricular areas. Adventures in particular
can enhance literacy and numeracy, while a computer-based simulation
can relate to a variety of individual subjects - eg. historical
simulations, wildlife simulations etc.
The
adventure or simulation being used must relate to and support
current classroom themes or topics. It is important to realise
that adventures or simulations should never be used in isolation.
Novice
Task:
Decide
which adventure or simulation to use.
Evaluate
the adventure or simulation thoroughly:
- is
the adventure or simulation appropriate to the theme or topic?
- is
the adventure or simulation appropriate to the ages and abilities
of the pupils?
Introduce
the adventure or simulation to the pupils.
Ensure
that pupils know how to navigate through the adventure or simulation.
Ensure
that pupils are aware and fully understand the main purpose and
objective of the adventure or simulation. They must be aware of
what they are expected to achieve.
Prepare
focused tasks and worksheets for pupils to use when using an adventure
or simulation.
Prepare
recording sheets for pupils to use during the adventure or simulation.
Amend if necessary.
Plan
effective cross-curricular activities based on the adventure or
simulation.
